The Baker's Wife

​

Village Light Opera Group (VLOG), a historic NYC non-profit community theater group of over 80 years, is searching for a Director, Music Director, and a Stage Manager for their winter 2024 production of the musical The Baker's Wife by Stephen Schwartz and Joseph Stein. Performances will take place on November 8, 2024 - November 10th, 2024, at the Flea Theater in Tribeca.

NOTE: This show will be performed with keyboard/piano only, accompanied by the Music Director, and acoustically without microphones. 

​

We enthusiastically encourage resumes from candidates of all backgrounds. VLOG is actively committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion and is particularly interested in hearing from individuals of color, female-identifying individuals and non-gender conforming individuals.

Important Dates

​

  • Form and Resume Submission: Sunday, July 14th - 11:59pm

  • You will be asked to upload a resume, provide any relevant links to your work, provide details about conflicts you have throughout the rehearsal/performance period, and provide us with the contact information for a reference. 

  • Interviews: Saturday, July 20th- 2:00pm - 7:00pm, Tuesday, July 23rd - 6:00pm - 10:00pm

    • Candidates will receive a link to sign-up for a specific interview slot on Friday, July 19th​ if selected to proceed in the process

    • All interviews will be held via Zoom. 

  • Audition Dates: Thursday, August 15th - 6:00pm - 10:00pm, Friday, August 16th - 6:00pm - 10:00pm

  • Callback Dates: Sunday, August 18th - 1:00pm - 8:00pm

  • First Date of Rehearsal: August 26th - 7:00pm - 10:00pm

  • Rehearsals will be held at various studios in Midtown, typically 3 times a week on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings, with occasional weekends as approved by the producer. There is some flexibility in regards to the rehearsal scheduling, depending on the schedules of the production team and of the performers. 

  • Tech Week: November 4th - November 8th

  • Performances: Friday, November 8th 7:00pm, Saturday, November 9th 2:00pm, Saturday, November 9th 7:00pm, Sunday, November 10th, 2:00pm

Stipend

Stage Director - $3,000

Music Director - $3,000

Stage Manager - $2,000

Directing Candidates should have experience in:

  • Directing musicals

  • Working with community or educational theater

  • Working with large ensembles

​

Music Directing Candidates should have experience in:

  • Music Directing musicals

  • Performing/Accompanying musical performances

  • Working with community or educational theater

  • Working with large ensembles

  • Orchestral reduction

​

Stage Manager Candidates should have experience in:

  • Stage Management (or production) of musicals

  • Working with community or educational theater

  • Working with large ensembles
