DIEGO (he.they) is an NYC-based theater-maker from the MX/TX border. Diego is a 2025/26 Directing Fellow at Mercury Store (a lab for NYC theater artists), an SDC Associate Member, a selected director for The Drama League 2023/24, and the 2024 SDCF Observership recipient on Broadway’s Hadestown. In Development: DAVID & THE APOCALYPSE (Co-Creator, BORDERLANDS/urbanX), ¡OKLAHOMA!, and TEJANX. Works: The Baker’s Wife (Director/Choreographer, VLOG); Great Comet of 1812 (Director/Choreographer, UVA Drama & NYU Tisch); The Secret Sharer (Co-Creator, DNA Works/ArtsEmerson); In The Heights (Associate Director, TUTS); ¡DESPIERTA! (Choreographer/Associate Director, Arts For Everybody); NYU Opera Lab (Director, AOP & NYU Tisch Grad. MTWP); La Broa’ (Assistant Director, Trinity Rep); and Guadalupe (Director/Playwright, Thirteen O'Clock Theater). Diego was formerly Associate Artistic Director of Thirteen O’Clock Theater and Creative Director of Dance Lab NY. They have collaborated with Ars Nova, The Public (PUBLIC WORKS), Roundabout, Tectonic Theater Project, Signature Theatre, The Playwrights Realm, The TEAM, WP Theater, Sol Project, Musical Theatre Factory, The Civilians, ¡OYE!
